The video above gives a realistic scenario.
The students were asked to give prudent actions, actions that lack prudence, and actions that were overreactions. The scenarios the students came up with, along with the varying reactions, are listed below. |
PRUDENCE: doing the right thing at the right time for the right reasons
Reasoning without action ----reasonable action----action without reason
(lack of prudence) PRUDENCE (overreaction)
Example situations where PRUDENCE is important:
1. A classmate is cheating on an assignment and you know about it.
Lack of prudence: You see her doing it and do nothing.
PRUDENCE: Investigate to find out if she's actually cheating and tell her it's wrong.
Overreaction: Tear up her assignment.
2. Two classmates are texting and one sends a mean message.
Lack of prudence: Do nothing
PRUDENCE: Contact a trusted adult
Overreaction: Send a mean text back
3. Somebody steals another kid's lunch money.
Lack of prudence: Laugh and do nothing
PRUDENCE: Lend the victim some money
Overreaction: Beat up the thief
4. A classmate drops his books in the hallway.
Lack of prudence: Just walk by the kid and his book
PRUDENCE: Stop and help him pick them up
Overreaction: Kick the books further down the hall and kick the kicker
5. A classmate needs help with her homework.
